Item description
Today wherever we look we find different kinds of aluminum being put to use in different way. It could be for roofing purposes, framework for doors and windows. It is also used to make utensils, aluminum foils – with which we pack our food etc.
Aluminum is the most abundant and plentiful metallic element in the Earth’s crust and the most widely used non-ferrous metal. Aluminum is a chemical element and has a density lower than those other common metals, at approximately one third that of steel. Aluminum has a great affinity towards oxygen, thanks to which it forms a protective layer of oxide on the surface. Aluminum is found in the forms of aluminum oxide in an ore called bauxite. Aluminum and bauxite are the two main raw materials in the aluminum making process. Aluminum is obtained by the electrolysis of alumina which extracts pure aluminum metal from alumina.
Alexander Dick invented the modern hot extrusion process in 1894, which was applicable to most non-ferrous alloys. Today, aluminum is the most commonly extruded metal, and it can be used with both hot and cold extrusion processes.
