US citizens can now conveniently apply for a 5-year e-Tourist Visa for India online, eliminating the need to visit an embassy or consulate. This extended visa allows multiple entries into India, each lasting up to 90 days. The India e-Visa program facilitates swift and hassle-free entry into the country.
The Indian Tourist Visa policy underwent significant changes in September 2019 to support the Prime Minister's goal of doubling US tourist arrivals. As a result, US tourists can now apply for a long-term 5-year Indian Tourist Visa, making it ideal for those planning multiple visits within 5 years.
Three categories of Tourist Visas are available: a 30-day visa, a 1-year (365 days) visa, and a 5-year (60 months) visa, all offering multiple entries. Choosing the visa that aligns with your travel needs is essential, as these visas are non-extendable and non-convertible.
For the 5-year e-tourist Visa, it's essential to note that each visit cannot exceed 180 days. To ensure a smooth process, it's advisable to apply at least 7 days before your intended flight.
Activities permitted on the 5-year Tourist e-visa include recreational travel, visiting friends or family in India, and participating in short-term yoga programs.
To obtain the 5-year Tourist e-Visa, you must meet specific requirements, including a passport with a minimum validity of six months from your first arrival in India, a valid email address to receive visa updates, and a valid payment method (credit/debit cards, PayPal, or UnionPay).
