The Tiger s Nest or the Taktshang Lhakhang is one of the main things people look forward to seeing in Bhutan. Located approximately 10 km towards the north of Paro town at an altitude of 3.120 m the Taktsang Monastery was constructed in the late 17th century in the place of a cave on the cliff. Although in English it is known as the Tiger s Nest, Taktsang more precisely translates to the tigress lair . To reach this ancient sacred temple one must trek through the beautifully dense and shadowy pine forest for a few hours.
